Vejigante concept created by Victoria Collazo Hernandez. Based on the classic design of a Puerto Rican Vejigante, a folkloric character often present in multiple Puerto Rican celebrations and festivals. Responsible for all aspects of the project. 3D modeled, textured, and rendered in Nomad Sculpt.
This project originated from a story pitch I am currently working on. I wanted to incorporate a piece of home on my work and developed a story surrounding our beloved Vejigantes.
Vejigantes appear in festivals and are meant to be scary characters that can sometimes represent bad omens and death. The process for creating their masks and suits has become a beautiful tradition and representation of our culture in Puerto Rico. My goal is to create a short film that shows the beauty of life and death through these odd creatures.
